Russia's war in Ukraine by the Numbers

The consequences of the occupiers’ attack are massive; but, due to a lack of information from the front, it is now nearly impossible to comprehend the full scope of the destruction and deaths.

We constructed a “map” for you using publicly accessible figures to better understand the real scale of the damage after Russian forces launched 5,000+ missiles to attack civilian areas.

  • Over 8,000 civilians from Ukraine perished in the war, and at least 13,000 more sustained injuries, as reported by the UN. According to Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, at least 487 of those killed were children, and 954 of the injured are children.

  • The majority of the losses were inflicted by explosive weapons over vast residential  areas – schools, kindergartens, hospitals, shelters and nursing homes. Wide-range explosive weapons, such as artillery shells, missiles and airstrikes, were responsible for about 90.3% of civilian fatalities.
  • Approximately 8 million people—roughly 20% of the nation’s population—have left Ukraine since the full-scale invasion began. Women make about 85% of Ukrainian refugees. More than half of them have higher education, and 73% of them were employed before the war. Now they are compelled to work in low-skilled jobs in order to support their families. Within Ukraine, an additional 5 million Ukrainians were internally displaced — all where people used to find their refuge.

  • In Ukraine, consumer inflation is at 26%, while wages fell by 30-40% on average during the conflict. There are some products for which this indicator is significantly higher, however. As a result, the rate of increase in fuel costs reached about 70%. This astronomical rise in fuel prices became an inflationary factor because it affected the prices of practically all items. Everything included, the country’s unemployment rate has soared to 34% making it unbearable to afford basic necessities for common Ukrainians.
  • In Kharkiv where RESTORE UKRAINE operates, Russian artillery has damaged more than 4,500 residential buildings, of which 500 are entirely destroyed. In total, the Russian invasion has caused a $9 billion loss to Kharkiv social infrastructure, leaving 150,000 residents without permanent residence.

The most important factor, however, is that despite the current situation, more than 95% of Ukrainian respondents to a recent survey expressed confidence in Ukraine’s ability to defeat Russia in the ongoing war.  And since Ukraine has the support of the entire democratic world, this will happen.

On the humanitarian front, we need all our hands on deck. With the liberation of the territory from the Russian army, the citizens gained freedom, but the destroyed households and infrastructure prevent them from satisfying their basic needs. Therefore, RESTORE UKRAINE must execute reconstruction and winterization projects and provide humanitarian supplies. With you, RESTORE UKRAINE will be able to focus on delivering the Kharkiv nationals out of poverty and homelessness.

We need you now! Ukrainians need you now!
